U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying
Joe Highsmith of Lakewood, Washington and veteran Steve Allan of Australia, qualified for the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines at the sectional qualifying held at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland, Washington. Highsmith held the lead after the first round tied with RJ Manke, also of Lakewood, and was able to hold on down the stretch to capture the first place spot. Allan, a veteran of the PGA Tour and now playing on the Korn Ferry Tour, had to make an impossible up-and-down on his final hole to get into a playoff for the one remaining spot. He made a 15-foot putt on the playoff hole to secure the second spot and punch his ticket to the Open.
